  1. King of Prussia from 1840. He upheld the
  2. principle of the divine right of kings, but
  3. was forced to grant a constitution 1850 after
  4. the Prussian revolution 1848. He suffered two
  5. strokes 1857, and became mentally
  6. debilitated. His brother William (later
  7. emperor) took over his duties.
